Wow! over a week already?
I knew that I felt really unconnected recently, but I didn't quite realize that it was this bad. And it's been an eventful week.
We have our new TD at work. and it promptly gave me an 'old age' moment. It turns out that he was one of the Darling children in our first production of Peter Pan, 9 years or so ago, at age 14. And now he's nominally my boss, or at least my immediate supervisor. I also know that he's gonna take a lot of patience and grooming. He's very inexperienced (at least from what I can see so far). I'll post more on him as it develops.
I had a great fun poker night at S's last night. It was she, BF, one of BF's radio co-workers, and exTD and his wife. A nice sized game. or rather couple of games. We did a $5 buy-in and played straight Hold-em. I creamed the first game, and came in second in the second game. The pay-out was third place got their 5 dollar stake back, and First and second split the rest about 70-30 (or 60-40, I didn't pay too much attention. For me, it was a friendly game). One of the initial stakes contained $3 in small change. It was a joke that the third place person got the change as their pay back, but somehow, at the end of the night, I ended up with this pocket full of dimes and nickels and one or two quarters.
I finally got the roof over my kitchen repaired. Ok, the backstory: Over our kitchen the roof changes pitch to an almost flat roof. Shortly after we moved in, we got a buddy to re-apply the roofing (like shingle material, but in a roll). However it's needed to be touched up every other year or so, by slopping some sealer or flashing cement, into the joints and any cracks that develop. Well, it's been 4 yrs or so since I did it. We got a few drips last fall, a few more this spring, but now, in autumn rainy season, most of our kitchen floor was covered with every baking pan and pot in the house catching a LOT of drips. Of course, there was continuous rain for almost a month. Finally we got three days straight of sun. Enough to dry off the roof, and let the goop set before the next rain. It's so nice to not have to worry about putting out pans in the rain. The only complaint is that I need to buy a ladder of my own, I've been borrowing the neighbors' ladder. One day.
Hmm lets see what else. I'm actually watching a couple of eBay auctions at work. I'm looking to buy a watchmans lantern or bullseye lantern. Our next show is Sherlock Holmes so we need one of these old lamps to explore the old abandoned cellar room. Kind of a period flashlight. It started with two, and is now down to one, while also using a standard kerosene lantern that we already have. Battery op of course. I've found one that's close-but-not-quite at a local antique mall, but it's asking $95 and I could probably talk them down, and I've found a couple of them for sale in Michigan for about that same amount. What a pain, but a fun pain in the butt.
Things with Wife are going well. I've been home most nights, and last night was my first late night out since that weird wild opening night. Even last night ended up being only 11:30. Hardly a late night. Little Bagheera is slowly integrating herself into the house. Slowly. One day, Czar, our chow mix dog, came into the bedroom with me. Bagheera, hiding under the bed, came to the edge of the bed and hissed and growled. Czar totally ignored her, and poor little Bagheera didn't know what to do with an animal who totally ignored her! It really puzzled her (though in Czar's defense, she's so deaf, she probably didn't even HEAR the growls). She's now accepting of the fact that the dogs really could care less about her, and she's concentrating her energies on the cats. Even Caliph is starting to take her for granted, and ignoring her when he sees Baggy out of the bedroom.
We had our official photocall for Bad Dates this week. I did my dirty-old-man duty and took pictures of our actress in lingerie in the guise of portfolio building. So if you haven't noticed already, my flickr page has new shots. I've also finally upgraded Flickr so I can post bigger and more pix. I'm addicted to flickr surfing now. Love it. Brings out my love of art photography.
Well, that's enough for now. This has gone on long enough for this morning.
