Nibble nibble

Well, I got my first response from my earlier batch of resumes. I have an interview set up in DeKalb (NIU) on April 19. The first email suggested a Tue. or Thur. in the next 4-5 weeks. I suggested THIS thursday. oh well. I can wait 3 WEEKS. I may snag S and find out if she wants to go down and just scout out the campus some weekend. As close as I am to them, I've never been down to that campus, and she might enjoy seeing it too. Oooh, they have a show this weekend and on the 14th, Tracers. A series of Vietnam war stories. She's mentioned going down to see one. I'll plan on that.

It's also time to start planning this summer. Josh has been slow in getting things organized for New Court Theater this summer, but that's Josh. He's also getting pressure from his board to get things moving, so I'll prod him too. If I'm going to start having interviews and whatnot, I'll need to find out when I'm free.

We're planning another game night (hopefully poker. I didn't do to well the last time, and feel out of practice.) this friday. Looking forward to that.

Starting to get estimates on repairing the roof. One said the whole roof doesn't need it, only the valleys and flat roof sections. Another said the whole roof needs it. Hmmm.

Crap. My glasses are falling apart. Last fall, one bow broke and I got A to find me a spare. Now, this morning, one of the floating nose pieces fell off. The whole thing's loose at all the seams and probably isn't long for the world. Crap. If it's not one thing, it's another.

Wow, talk about odds and ends.

A breakthrough for foot fetishists

A 22-year-old woman sought medical care for a lesion in the plantar region of her left foot, a well-formed nipple surrounded by areola and hair. Microscopic examination of the dermis showed hair follicles, eccrine glands, and sebaceous glands. Fat tissue was noted at the base of the lesion. Clinical and histopathologic findings were consistent with the diagnosis of supernumerary breast tissue, also known as pseudomamma. To our knowledge, this is the first report of supernumerary breast tissue on the foot.

These supernumerary breasts can pop up all over the place, including the face, back, and thigh (and foot, obviously). They can be functionally complete, and can even lactate. The authors report some weak and sometimes contradicted associations with other oddities, but no causal mechanism is known. These cases of autonomous self-organization and recruitment of organs are extremely interesting—it suggests that a breast would be a fairly easy tissue to grow in a dish.

Ooooooohhhh. Ouch

I'm a hurtin' puppy today.
It all started on Friday. Friday was a hockey game. S had organized it and had promised a surprise for us at the game. Well, the surprise was... N was back in town! She'd come back to town for hockey and friends (not necessarily in that order). She was here for the weekend. We'd all blown off the opening night of Morrie for the hockey game (social faux pas perhaps in the snooty art circle, but hey! This was worth it.) so after the game we hightailed it over to the post show party, to show off our prodigal friend. S was inviting people over after that for cocktails, even though it was getting late and people were begining to fade. Well, it would have only been me going over, and while I would have loved spending quiet time with them, I passed, letting them rest up for the next days events. POKER! at 7 the next evening. I've missed that!
The poker party actually started late. People couldn't make it right away, so we started with a couple of Pirate themed games. Of course the booze was flowing freely. I had my pint of the Captain that I always bring with me. I usually stop at this, but I knew I'd want more after that, so I picked up some Liney's Red for afters. S and N had already started hitting the 7 & 7s, and stated that they had every intention of getting drunk since they didn't have any place to go before noon the next day. My plans of stopping at a reasonable point ended when TD came in with a handle of the Captain. My my my my my.

I came across this titbit on my ISP homepage first thing this morning:
According to The British Medical Journal, the following seven alcoholic beverages produce the worst hangover symptoms:
1. Brandy
2. Red wine
3. Rum
4. Whiskey
5. White wine
6. Gin
7. Vodka

Yeah, tell me about it. Although I must say that while I certainly shouldn't have been driving home last night (and after all the inuendo and frustration that was flying around the poker table last night, I could easily have been convinced to stay over...) I'm not in too bad shape this morning. I was actually up and alive by 11:30, after getting home around 4am. Captain Morgan is usually pretty good to me, as long as I stick to it. So I'm a little worse for wear, and am puzzling over some things on my nightstand, some pretzel sticks and a poker chip (I think they were in my shirt pocket when I took it off last night). It felt really good last night. And it was scary how easily we all fell into the old times after almost 2 years away. I miss having N around, and it's sad that this is no longer Home to her, but that makes the occasional visit even more special. Thanks for coming, dear one. I'm gonna have to work harder at getting a job out east.
I'm going to upload pictures later today. I have some from the hockey game (we lost by the way 4-2). I didn't get any from last night, but I'll post some as they get sent to me from those who did get them. I'm going to go make some OJ and try to rehydrate. The vit.B is already kicking in and I already feel better than I did earlier.

Expectations...

It's funny to read my last couple of posts and then compare that to what really happened. Wow. Bridegroom. Well, they stayed behind schedule (well, according to them, it wasn't as behind as they usually were...) all the way up to opening. I finally saw a run-thru the Tuesday before opening, but there was still a scene that hadn't been blocked yet. The Director didn't want to throw too much at the kids all at once, so added scenes in stages, and finally felt that they could handle it on Tuesday night. So I cued the scene based on the description of what the director wanted to do, and the first half that I'd already seen. Unfortuneately, I had to shift over to Morrie after that night. So I never saw the final show, it only ran 4 performances, while Morrie was in Tech. I'm waiting for pictures. Last night I got a really nice thank you card signed by all the kids. Really nice.
Morrie has been great. Well, as shows about death and dying go, it's been great. I got the cues written and roughed in by Friday night, and Saturday's tech went smoothly. I've spent the last few days tweaking, and have one more focus touch to do, but I think I'm done there. Oh, yeah, the title, expectations. Well, it seems that the student worker who was going to hang the plot for us, decided that he was going to be an English major after all, and has not been seen since. He at least got all the lighting instruments to the theatre, ready to hang (since a lot of them were probably in the air of the mainstage theatre, it was actually a big help. Last time, I ended up on the loading gallery re-weighting battons after taking all the lights off the pipe. Not fun.). But, all in all, hang and focus were pretty uneventful.

I still haven't started my taxes. I guess next week, after Morrie is up and running. I used to be able to have my money in my account by my birthday, but now I can't even get it filed by then. I also have been loosening up about my birthday I guess. When Jen was here I discovered that we had the same birthday, and told her so. Too bad she's not here to celebrate with. oh well. One of the actors also had a party last week and his wife's birthday was the day after mine. Stupid me mentioned this to her, and she drunkenly decided to announce it to the room. who then proceded to sing. I hate that. Oh well. The lighting designer for Stones in his Pockets last year, gave me a gift certificate for a local fine restaurant as a thank you. It expired in a year, coincidentally, on my birthday this year. It sat in my desk for a year, so last week I decided to take S out for a nice luncheon treat. Unfortunately, she couldn't make it for the last day of the certificate, but the next. We did that. It ended up being ok since the certificate didn't have the YEAR of the expiration on it, only the month and day. Stupid restaurant. We had a really nice sushi luncheon for relatively cheap. Yes, she's gotten me to appreciate sushi, something Wife will never understand. And I got to catch up with S, who I'm lucky to see once a week nowadays. I miss her.
Hockey again this Friday. I'm gonna take a pass on the opening of Morrie, and hit the after party. This may be one of the last games I'll get to see this season. Next season, who knows where I'll be.
