Schmoozing the rich

a.k.a. Political games

Every year, my theatre hosts a benefit for ourselves. It's called the "Night of Stars". It's a chance for the towns rich and snobby to prove to themselves that they're better than the proletarian rabble. This year, for the first time, the staff are allowed to go for free. For the past 11 years I've avoided this function like the plague. I've had to set up for it, had to supply lights and other equipment, but never been allowed inside the doors because I'm too miserly to fork out $75 for a ticket for a $12 meal. Well, no excuses this year. I'm also being pressured to go by a very persuasive person. Damn you, S, I never could refuse a pretty lady. Eleven years of soapbox boycotting down the drain, flushed by a pair a pretty eyes and a smile. Oh well, she says the best fun is sitting in the corner and making fun of what the people with more money than sense call style. At least I get a good meal out of it. Another friend recommended that I treat it as a work function, not as a social gig. That way, you don't have to actually enjoy yourself, only look like it; and if you do actually enjoy it, then it's a bonus. I also have an excuse to book out early if I can't stand it any more, we have a late comedy show on our stage starting at 11 pm. that night.
I need to remember to take my camera. Some of the shots could be entertaining.
