Heredity hierarchy hitch

The Herald in me loves this kind of stuff. Kind of makes you wonder what the legal precedent would be if it really became an issue of inheritance.

Daylight-Saving Causes Twin Arrival Pickle

Laura Cirioli

Everyone knows the pecking order in a family has everything to do with age. The oldest sibling usually rules the roost. But what if you get cheated out of the title because of Daylight Saving Time?

Peter Sullivan Cirioli was dubbed "Baby A" at WakeMed Cary when he arrived early Sunday morning.

“Yes, Peter was born first, it was at 1:32 a.m.,” mother Laura Cirioli said.

Thirty-four minutes later, Peter's twin sister, Allison Raye Cirioli, known as "Baby B," made her entrance into the world.

Because of Daylight Saving Time, Allison's time of birth was 1:06 a.m., which makes her 26 minutes older than her brother even though he was born first.

“We just never even thought about it until after he was born and then we realized it was going to happen. It was really kind of amazing,” Laura Cirioli said.

The proud mother and father said they don't really care who was born first, they are just glad to have two healthy babies. They do suspect the daylight savings predicament will be fodder for sibling rivalry.

“We'll let them work that out between themselves. I don't want to get into the middle of it,” Jason Cirioli said.

Travel Plans

I get to get away for a VACATION!!

Well, kind of.
The whole family is getting together for my Dad's 70th Birthday bash in Florida at the begining of December. Between her pain and the animals, Wife will be staying behind. I'm flying solo.
I made my plans over a month in advance, but it still seems kind of expensive, $350 minimum. I got quotes over $500! From Oklahoma to Florida. For 6 days. I even looked into Amtrak. HA! Their route would have taken me from OKC to Dallas, to Chicago, to Washington DC, to Orlando, to Tampa. I would have gotten there just in time to catch my return train. And the cost was about as much as flying! And they wonder why people don't ride the train in the US.

But I get to go be lazy for 4 days on the Florida Gulf coast. I have to put up with my family, but I can tolerate my brother for 4 days in Florida. I'm gonna take LOTS of pictures. We'll see how many of them make it to Flickr.
I've never gotten along with my brother. We're too different. Well, we're obviously brothers, we look alike. Though I've always been the little brother. Well, we'll see about that one. After his heart surgeries, apnea, and other medical problems, he's supposedly dropped a LOT of weight, while I've only put it on. I guess I'll be the one getting the barbed comments from Mom about my weight, and the strain on my heart, and my potential faulty heart valve (both Dad and Brother have one).

Wife gets to stay home with the animals. She gets the car, but since she "can't" drive any more (I think she "could" if she'd try, she just needs to DO it. I think it's mostly psychological fear from the accident.), it's kind of pointless. She's gonna be a basket case while I'm gone. She was pushing me to cut my time away, but one day at either end meant $50 more, each (ie. Tues/Wed travel instead of Thursday or Monday). As it is, I'm doing Thursday to Tuesday, splitting the difference. Now I need to find somebody to take me to the airport, about 20 miles. Maybe a taxi? Skinflint me balks at that though. We'll see.

Seasonal foods of Oklahoma

We were doing our shopping at Sam's recently and had an odd moment. Up in Rockford, we were used to our Sams; good selections (for the most part), cheap brand booze. Here, for a chain store, it's really different. The one thing that epitomized it was that the store had Lots of spaghetti, angelhair, thin, regular, whatever kind you want. They had Elbow macaroni. They had Manicotti. They had no egg noodles. You know, the wide flat noodles that you use for stroganoff, or chicken paprika. So I asked one of the drones if they ever get Egg noodles, you know, the wide, flat noodles... The drone says, "Sure, I know what kind you mean. Yeah, we sometimes get them, just not now. I guess it's a seasonal thing." Yes, he actually said that. A seasonal thing. I actually was proud of myself for not laughing in his face and asking just when Pasta season WAS?
Oh, and Sams here (hell, none of the grocery stores here) doesn't have anything stronger than beer. For liquor you have to go to a liquor store.

OMG. That leads me to the store I DID visit. It's called Sooner Spirit (gotta love a punny name). It's a good sized building, but when I walked in, I was blown away. It's about as big as the liquor store up in Beloit I went to once (some of you may know the one, just south of the state line...?), and maybe as big as Royal Liquor. So I had high hopes for a good selection. I walked in and was immediatly struck by how crowded it was. Not people, Bottles, and boxes of bottles, and racks of bottles. I had a tough time negotiating some of the aisles, they were so narrow and stacked so tall. The wine selection was about 3 times the size of Royal liquor. Really nice selection of all the main liquors, each one in it's own aisle. On my way out I passed the whiskeys. Johnny Walker. Red, then Black, Then Gold. Then BLUE. at $180 a bottle! I was actually breathless. I'd never been in a store that stocked JW Blue. On the shelf. I mentioned it to a passing clerk, he said "wait" and from behind the counter he pulled out a HalfPint of it. $40! but affordable for a splurge. Needless to say, I declined. This time. I also saw GlenFarklas Scotch. When my Dad went to Scotland he toured a lot of distilleries and that was his favorite. They had 6 different ages from 5yr old to 30 yr old, up to $130 a bottle. Yikes. Maybe I'll pick up one of the middle ones for his birthday...hmmm
Which leads me to...
I get to travel at the end of the month!.
But I'll have to tell you about it later, it's getting late and Wife gets cranky if I'm too much past 7.
