Travel Plans

I get to get away for a VACATION!!

Well, kind of.
The whole family is getting together for my Dad's 70th Birthday bash in Florida at the begining of December. Between her pain and the animals, Wife will be staying behind. I'm flying solo.
I made my plans over a month in advance, but it still seems kind of expensive, $350 minimum. I got quotes over $500! From Oklahoma to Florida. For 6 days. I even looked into Amtrak. HA! Their route would have taken me from OKC to Dallas, to Chicago, to Washington DC, to Orlando, to Tampa. I would have gotten there just in time to catch my return train. And the cost was about as much as flying! And they wonder why people don't ride the train in the US.

But I get to go be lazy for 4 days on the Florida Gulf coast. I have to put up with my family, but I can tolerate my brother for 4 days in Florida. I'm gonna take LOTS of pictures. We'll see how many of them make it to Flickr.
I've never gotten along with my brother. We're too different. Well, we're obviously brothers, we look alike. Though I've always been the little brother. Well, we'll see about that one. After his heart surgeries, apnea, and other medical problems, he's supposedly dropped a LOT of weight, while I've only put it on. I guess I'll be the one getting the barbed comments from Mom about my weight, and the strain on my heart, and my potential faulty heart valve (both Dad and Brother have one).

Wife gets to stay home with the animals. She gets the car, but since she "can't" drive any more (I think she "could" if she'd try, she just needs to DO it. I think it's mostly psychological fear from the accident.), it's kind of pointless. She's gonna be a basket case while I'm gone. She was pushing me to cut my time away, but one day at either end meant $50 more, each (ie. Tues/Wed travel instead of Thursday or Monday). As it is, I'm doing Thursday to Tuesday, splitting the difference. Now I need to find somebody to take me to the airport, about 20 miles. Maybe a taxi? Skinflint me balks at that though. We'll see.
